March 18th: Mid-Week Lenten Worship Service

FELC continues its Lenten mid-week potluck soup supper at 6:30 pm and a Holden Evening Prayer Service at 7:15 pm. Thank you to Worship & Music for hosting last week’s soup supper! Christian Ed will be hosting this week. Our Church Council has designated that our Lenten offerings will go to F.I.S.H. (Friends In Service Here).
Our series on Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount continues with recognizing that we live in a very judgmental world, so Jesus’ advice “do not judge” sounds radical to our modern ears. But there is a difference between judging to condemn and judging to discern. Jesus asks us to give up judging to condemn. We are to give that judgement to God. When we leave all “judging to condemn” up to God, we free ourselves to look at one another through fresh and forgiving eyes.

Never done a “Prayer Vigil?” Don’t let your worries keep you from participating in this easy entry Good Friday Prayer Vigil. The Care and Concern team will have prayer booklets to help guide you. The booklet has info on taking time to pray for people you know, connecting your body with your prayers, praying scripture, praying for the church and the world or meditating prayer. So we’ve got you covered. This should make spending half an hour in FELC’s sanctuary in prayer fly by. Whether you’re a prayer novice or old pro, help us expand FELC’s prayer ministry by signing up for one of the ½ hour slots for Good Friday, April 3rd from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Maundy Thursday marks the night of
Jesus' last supper where He instituted the Lord's Supper and when He was betrayed. The word Maundy" comes from the latin mandamus which means "commandment," because on this night Christ instituted the final commandment to love one another as He has loved us.

We invite you to our Good Friday “Tenebrae” service on April 3rd at 7:15 pm. This powerful worship service recalls Jesus’ great love for us in sacrificing himself on a cross for our sins. “Tenebrae” is Latin for darkness and it describes the gradual darkening of the church with each word from the cross from Jesus, ending with the haunting song “Were You There?” and loud noise reminding us of the large stone set in place over Jesus’ tomb. From there we wait for Easter Sunday’s joyous news.
