Stephen Ministry

Stephen Leaders are clergy and lay Christians trained at a one-week Leader's Training Course to oversee and direct Stephen Ministry in their congregations. This includes recruiting, selecting, training, and supervising Stephen Ministers in the congregation. They learn how to coordinate Stephen Ministry by attending a Stephen Series Leader's Training Course led by the faculty of the Stephen Ministries organization.

Stephen Ministers are trained and supervised congregation members who provide one-to-one distinctively Christian care to hurting people on behalf of their congregation. Stephen Ministers are trained in the congregation by their congregation's Stephen Leaders. Many Stephen Ministers, after serving as a caregiver, go on to attend an LTC and become a Stephen Leader.

The Difference between Stephen Leaders and Stephen Ministers

The difference between a Stephen Leader and a Stephen Minister is important. A person who would be a good Stephen Minister would not necessarily be a good Stephen Leader. The opposite is also true. Cost to train one Leader is about $2000 including travel expenses.
