Worship and Music

Charter Statement:

The Worship & Music Ministry is chartered to assist the Pastors in ensuring that the worship services are conducted regularly in accordance with Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC), and that worship services and music will be appropriate in following the guidelines of LCMC, remembering that First Evangelical Lutheran is:

  • Free in Christ
  • Accountable to one another
  • Rooted in the Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions
  1. Ensure that competent worship assistants (e.g., liturgists, acolytes, communion assistants, readers, greeters, altar guild, ushers and musicians) are recruited and properly trained and supervised.
  2. Ensure maintenance of robes for liturgists, acolytes and choir.
  3. Ensure all hymnals and other devotional materials are provided and properly maintained.
  4. Ensure that instruments belonging to the church are well maintained.
  5. Ensure that at the request of the pastor(s), organist or choir director(s), it shall furnish music supplies appropriate for use in the worship services of the congregation.
  6. Ensure that it shall supervise and encourage the choirs and other musical groups of the congregation.
  7. Ensure that it shall oversee the Altar Guild.
  8. Altar Guild will consist of a group of volunteers, with a chairperson regularly attending Worship and Music Team meetings.
  9. They shall take care of the behind-the-scenes work of the chancel area of the church.
  10. They shall see to it that supplies for Holy Communion, Baptisms, and all worship services are provided.
  11. They shall see to it that appropriate banners and paraments are used for the particular season of the church year.
  12. They shall see to it that the baptismal / funeral banners are displayed appropriate to those occasions.
  13. They shall see to it that any extra items such as Christmas Eve candles, Ash Wednesday ashes, Palm Sunday palm branches are ordered and readily available when needed.
  14. Ensure that proper advertisement for the Post Register be provided for worship and music events of the church and shall see that the reader board is updated.
  15. Ensure maintenance of the Christian Copyright License. (CCLI # for FELC 699128) for use when words to hymnody, etc. are used during worship.
  16. Ensure a means for worship attendance records.
  17. Ensure the working with and support for the position of Director of Music who also serves as chairperson for this ministry team.
  • Propose annual budget and annual report for the team to be presented at the annual meeting.
  • Make recommendations to Council President with regard to hiring/terminating staff within the music ministry.
  • Chairperson and council liaison have authority to sign vouchers authorizing expenditures within budgeted amounts. Flexibility is allowed for specific categories providing that bottom line total amount spent does not surpass total worship and music budget, unless otherwise authorized by church council and finance team.
Reporting Requirements:
  • Submit draft budget and annual report to the Council.
  • Meet periodically as a team with minutes given to council regarding discussions held.

The following are some of the many music ministry groups at First Lutheran, available for all ages:

Grace Note Choir
This choir is a mixed choir of men and women who rehearse each Sunday morning from 9:45am - 10:45am, September through May.
King's Men Choir
This choir, composed of men from the congregation, rehearse Fridays from 11:30am - 12:15pm, September through May.
Glory Ringers
This handbell choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings 6:00pm - 7:15pm, September through May. The choir consists of four octaves of bells and handchimes.
Cherub Bell Ringers
This choir (3rd - 6th grade) gathers together with the Glory Ringers twice a year to present special music for worship.
We are always looking for people who are willing to enhance our worship with instruments.
